Feeling isolated in Kansas when I yearned to learn about and travel the world was a constant heartache, but at least there was National Geographic! When I no longer had small babies, I loved taking one child at a time on a trip somewhere. I always felt a trip to Washington DC and the east coast made their American History and Government courses more meaningful, and a trip to the Sears Tower in Chicago gave them much more appreciation for architecture than just looking at pictures. And it was fun. Take a child and go explore. It will be good for both of you.
If you ever feel the need for a little mental stimulation, tackle learning a language. There are so many wonderful opportunities and options for anyone wanting to learn a language. My daughter lives in Spain, and I have a daughter-in-law from Ukraine. I may not ever become fluent in Spanish or Ukrainian, but I like trying….
