I love music. I have always wanted to make beautiful music but often despaired of the possibility. I did try to—over and over and over again. It is called practice. The piano had been my first love, but one day a former teacher of mine wrote me a note challenging me to take up the organ, stating “Need trumps preference in the Christian’s life, and there is such a need for organists.” I followed that kind suggestion and have been very, very grateful I did. My heart absolutely thrills from week to week as I am privileged to accompany congregations. It took a very long time before I felt comfortable with the organ, and that is the nature of developing talents. It takes a lot of time and a long time—but the joy of the journey is its own reason. Find something you love and get better at it through practice. You’ll be glad you did.
